DDA Forensics was a proud sponsor of the Wall of Wind (WOW) Mitigation Challenge competition. The event was held on March 31 in Miami, and hosted by the Florida International University (FIU) Hurricane Research Center for local area high schools.

Teams of high school students were challenged to develop an innovative mitigation concept and solution within well-defined guidelines developed by the WOW Research Team. Student teams prepared three components for the competition to address the hurricane wind mitigation challenge: a physical test, an oral presentation and a written technical paper. This year’s challenge was to reduce the wind-induced force on a building’s foundation, by optimizing its overall shape.

DDA Forensics Wall of Wind (WOW) Mitigation Challenge

The NHERI Wall of Wind (WOW) Experimental Facility is funded by the National Science Foundation as a national facility where wind engineering projects and private industry designs can be tested under hurricane conditions, up to and including Category 5 (157 mph) wind speeds.

Congratulations to all participants, including the winning school, Miami Coral Park!
