Ziad Azzi, Civil and Structural Engineer at DDA Forensics, presented on the investigation of wind effects on transmission line systems at the 14th Americas Conference on Wind Engineering (ACWE) on May 17-19 in Lubbock, TX.

Hosted by the National Wind Institute (NWI) at Texas Tech University (TTU), ACWE is one of the premier international conferences for the wind engineering community. The annual conference provides an opportunity for physical scientists, engineers, social scientists, architects, economists, data scientists, and practitioners to explore the connections between windstorm investigations, engineering research, wind energy research, and social, behavioral, and economic outcomes in areas such as wind climate, wind loading on structures, the performance of structures in wind, environmental effects of wind, socioeconomic impacts of wind hazards, and wind energy. For the full conference agenda, visit https://www.depts.ttu.edu/nwi/14ACWE/.

Ziad’s presentations, “Aeroelastic Testing to Evaluate Wind Effects on Transmission Systems” and “Aeroelastic Testing to Examine the Dynamic Behavior of a Single Self-Supported Electrical Transmission Tower Subjected to Downburst Wind Loads”, featured key details on transmission line systems, electrical transmission towers, and wind effects.

“It was a pleasure presenting my work at the 14th Americas Conference on Wind Engineering. It’s really refreshing to reconnect with fellow colleagues from the wind engineering community. The last couple of years might have been very challenging but the boundaries of wind engineering science are still ever-growing! Looking forward to the 16th International Conference on Wind Engineering taking place next year in Italy,” says Ziad Azzi, Civil and Structural Engineer of DDA Forensics.

Ziad has over 10 years of experience providing expertise in structural engineering, structural analysis, structural dynamics, earthquake and wind analysis of structures, aeroelasticity, vibration, and inspection as well as evaluation of existing residential and commercial structures. He has published numerous articles and conference papers and delivered lectures and presentations. Ziad is a registered Professional Engineer in Florida, an Adjunct Professor at FIU, and is actively involved in committees with ACI, ASCE and AAWE.
