Session Addresses Estimating Accuracy and Building Code Application in Property Insurance Claims

SALT LAKE CITY   DDA Forensics Managing Partner Jonathon Diego presented at the Verisk Elevate 2026 Conference, a national conference bringing together insurance carriers, claims professionals, restoration companies and industry technology leaders to explore emerging trends shaping the property claims landscape. Held Feb. 9–12, at the Hyatt Regency Salt Lake City, the annual event focuses on innovation, emerging technology and evolving challenges within the insurance industry.

Sessions at the 2026 conference focused on topics including claims technology and automation, catastrophe response, estimating accuracy, building code compliance, data-driven decision-making and strategies for improving efficiency and transparency across the claims process. Diego joined industry experts presenting educational sessions aimed at helping professionals better navigate complex property claims and evolving regulatory and construction environments. Diego and his co-presenter, Garrett Kurtt, founder and CEO of OneClick Code, delivered the presentation “Preventing Misclassification of Building Code Line Items in Xactimate,” which examined how code-related estimating errors can occur during the claims process and highlighted how improved documentation, engineering analysis and expert collaboration can help reduce claim inaccuracies and disputes.

“Building code requirements vary widely across jurisdictions, and misclassification within estimating platforms can lead to significant claim discrepancies. Our goal at DDA Forensics is to help industry professionals better understand how code application, engineering analysis and estimating practices intersect. Sharing practical insight with adjusters, attorneys and claims professionals helps move the industry toward more accurate evaluations and better-informed decisions,” says Diego.

The session explored how jurisdictional complexity across thousands of building code authorities can affect claim outcomes and highlighted strategies for improving accuracy in property damage estimates and documentation.

“As a Verisk ecosystem partner, it’s especially meaningful to be part of these conversations shaping the future of claims innovation. We’re proud to contribute to the agenda to share practical strategies for improving accuracy and reducing friction across carrier workflows,” says Garrett Kurtt, Founder & CEO, OneClick Code.
