Credential Recognizes Advanced Expertise in Windows, Doors, and Building Envelope Performance
MIAMI — Dr. Ziad Azzi, Director of Engineering at DDA Forensics, recently earned the Fenestration Master® Professional Certification (FMPC) from the Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA). This program is designed for industry professionals seeking advanced competency in fenestration products and systems. The coursework covers product performance standards, installation methods, quality assurance, and failure analysis.
The FGIA proactively shapes building codes, construction practices and specification standards affecting the fenestration industry to ensure member interests are effectively represented. The association monitors legislative and regulatory activity and develops technical documents that are widely referenced in building codes. FGIA staff and members also work closely with building officials and government agencies to ensure these standards allow code officials to evaluate product performance and quality using consistent, objective criteria.
“In forensic engineering and building envelope performance, correct protocol, precision and up-to-date knowledge are paramount. Fenestration systems play a critical role in protecting the building envelope, especially in high-wind and hurricane-prone regions. This program sharpened my understanding of industry standards and performance testing, which directly supports the quality and reliability of our forensic evaluations at DDA Forensics. Combined with my background in civil, forensic, structural and wind engineering, it enhances my ability to accurately assess fenestration and glazing systems, including materials, components, installation methods and performance standards,” says Azzi.
The FMPC is awarded to individuals who demonstrate advanced technical knowledge of fenestration products, including design, manufacturing standards, installation practices and field performance related to air, water and structural resistance. The FGIA offers professional certifications and education that cover the full breadth of the fenestration industry, including performance standards, products and materials, test methods and code requirements.
“Fenestration failures are a major driver of water intrusion and storm-related losses, and this credential further strengthens our ability to provide accurate, defensible opinions in complex property damage cases,” says Jonathon Diego, Managing Partner, DDA Forensics.
Azzi leads forensic investigations involving wind, water intrusion and construction-related failures across residential and commercial properties. His work frequently involves evaluating the performance of windows, doors, curtain walls and related assemblies following severe weather events and construction disputes. As the Director of Engineering, he also oversees technical standards, mentors engineering staff, and ensures consistent, defensible methodologies are applied across all investigations.
